MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES

Proverbs 14:12; “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death
2 Chronicles 27:6; “King Jotham became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the LORD his God.

In this world, we have been told that we are a product of our choices which to a very large extent, is true. We are what we choose to be. However there is a way that we must choose if we are going make the most of life and live a life free of regrets and shame and free also from a life less than that which you ought to live. If you desire greatness, then there is a path that you must follow. “Doesn’t seem like I have that much freedom anymore” you might say, but it’s the truth! First, if any man must live up to HIS fullness on earth, have a life of true peace, joy and love which I must say is everyone’s desire, then HE must choose CHRIST. It is worthy to note that you have the power to choose your destination but if you must get there in due time and if you plan to get there at all, then definitely, you cannot determine the route nor means.

Let’s use this easy example: Imagine one who intends to be in England boarding a plane going to China or one who wants to go to India on an air craft headed for Lagos? Every path/means has its already desired destination and you cannot change that. The choice to follow that means is an automatic choice to land at its own destination and that you have no power to change. You cannot tell the Pilot to go your own way- my dear, it’s simply not allowed! Boarding his plane is accepting whatever destination he is going.

So many people today have their desired destinations which for everyone should be greatness. People however, don’t want to be told how to get there, you even hear statements like “it’s my life, and so I make the choices here”. Dearest, you truly have no choice, the choice you have to make, you have already made which is your final destination, outside that, and there is a route if you truly desire to get there.

So dear one, you cannot choose greatness and choose the path that leads to wastefulness. A typical example is a man who wants to be very great and has resulted to theft, he wilfully deserted education and all forms of learning, stays late and wasteful nights out with friends, which simply is an automatic choice of the otherwise.

Once, I was in a solitary place and incidentally some work was going on which implied the presence of artisans. Occasionally as they passed, I would bow my head in salutation and as some inquired of my wellbeing I responded. One of the men waited to speak to me, he asked me if I would like to have a drink with him, without waiting for a response, he gave me a suggestion of drinks that we could have together. They all sounded so strange and I silently began to ask myself what happened to Coca Cola, or Fanta, Mountain Dew or the regular drinks I know? Apparently the list he gave where all alcoholic. I told him I wasn’t interested then he made a statement: “Papa Oyedepo (the chancellor of my University) has brain washed all of you” I said to him, “if he brain washed me to carry the mind-set he carries which has gotten him to where he is today, then I believe it’s a positive brain wash and I like it!” He laughed in disappointment and left. I have understood and accepted the standards I am built by here (my school) as not mere thoughts of man but principles birth from the word of GOD. Thinking of it, the BIBLE in Romans 12:1 does say that we should not conform to the world’s pattern but allow a renewing of our minds by GOD’s word! In the course of our discussion, he said he graduated with a first class form University of Lagos, but see where he is today. He said he is going be great but he’s not going live a “caged” life. I ask, how possible is it for you to desire greatness yet choose to be like everyone else? That’s the mind-set of the world. Such greatness is never characterised with true health, wholeness and wellness!

Today’s lesson is very simple and clear. You cannot choose CHRIST and live for the world. This is one pattern that has helped me when I want to make choices. If you have settled the end you want to settle in, then making choices in between becomes easy. No student who has chosen to make a first class will choose to watch movies all day or sleep extra hours that may not be needed. No one who chooses to grow stronger in CHRIST will choose watching movies all day and having no time to seek GOD in word study nor prayer

Settle your end dear one, with GOD and through HIS word and all other things will simply become easy to choose. First discover GOD’s life purpose for you, and believe me that is not hard, simply ask HIM. Next prepare your way before the LORD daily by having short and long term goals, and listen to HIM per time which will really help even in making right choices in between!

I love you totally, GOD loves us all
